Thumbs down HKS Turbo Timer Type-1

WRX STI 2007 Limited: I just installed my turbo timer and i took it for a test drive and everything is off calibration :(. When i was doing 30MPH (on the speedo) it said i was doing 60MPH (on the turbo timer) and when i was doing 4000RPM it said i was doing 6000RPM ? So my shift lite is off and so is my 0-60 stop watch. Also i have it on Automatic so it measures how hard i am driving the car and then sets the apropriate timer for cooling the turbo but if everything is off, then it will think im doing 6MPH when im really doing 30. :( So im wondering if the digital speedo and rpm thing are worthless? Does anyone else have luck with these? Im going to call HKS in the morning.

i have the Blitz blah blah blah.. came with the car.. they really serve no purpose as subaru says you dont need a turbo timer... A nice "bling" mod but other than that i would say pointless... i used mine for a while and would just let it cool down to what it thought it needed too.. now i usually just override it and turn the car off.. not leaving it in gear sucks too.

Hope you can get it figured out.. personally i would return it say it doesnt work and use the money else where

David

Ok i called HKS support, man what a great company!!! They didnt give me the run around at all!!!! A young lady answer the phone and she said "I can help you" wow she knew everything about the dam type-1 turbo timer!!! Anyways it turns out that all it needed was to go into learning mode for both the RPM and the Speedometer! PRESTO BANGO it works PERFECT!!! So now not only do i have a turbo timer but i also have a shift light, a 0-60mph stopwatch, a digital speedometer and so many more feateres!!! Its like 6 guages rolled into one!!! So many people told, "ehhhh you dont need that stupid thing", but you know what for 6 guages in one its a real bargain!!! I would rather have a turbo timer anyways because it cant hurt and If it saves my turbo bearings in the long run even better!

I took photos of my install and i will soon put together a how-to for any STI owner that would like to do this install. You do have to have the schematics for the ECU wich is verry hard t get!!!! I had to call the dealership (Renick Subaru CA) and they sent me many pages (about 20) to my fax. They are a great dealership that helps their customers and knows alot about the STI's. Its definetly not easy and involves ripping apart your ignition and your floor to access the ECU under the carpet on the passenger side. If you do something wrong, you can easily fry your ECU. BECAREFULL!!!!!!

Cheers to HKS and RENICK SUBARU for their support!

Call me a nOOb but you drive a Sti... Why do you need a turbo timer???

When you get a chance look under your hood @ your Turbo & check out those little hoses that are connected to it... Guess what they do.

Try asking for his mod list first. He could have an upgraded turbo that isnt water cooled. But hey maybe you read minds or something.
