not to be rude or anything, but did you notice you created 3 threads? =X my best suggestion is go test drive if you can. because you could have different preferences or so.

What are you looking for in the car... you are coming from a mustang.. so I assume you like to go fast.. but i could be wrong.. an Evo is a great car if you are looking for something very versatile... Great in a straight line and corners like a dream.
Of course if you want to spend less you could look into a WRX... which can be made to be a great car.. and really is a great car out of the box also. And of course you could man up and get the big brother STi..
Personally these are the 3 AWD cars i would consider right now... (being i am really into the rally aspect of them..)
If you want some luxurious Both BMW and Audi have some AWD cars..
It really comes down to what you want out of the car!

There are always DSMs. Talons, Eclipses, Lasers. They are pretty cheap, AWD, and will beat the hell out of your Mustang after spending $200. People may say that they are peices of shit, and they are. Slap a new timing belt on and do general maintenance and they won't treat you too bad, I wouldn't recommend owning one with out having another car to fall back on for daily driving. They take mods very well and are a tried and true platform, the motor is strong but anything and everything around it goes to shit, have extra money laying for these repairs.

owned my galant vr4 for 4 years and the only thing that went wrong with it, was the lifters and the alternator and ecu.
The lifters caused tons of knock, put some revised lifters, BAM! it wasn't knockin anymore.
The Alternator crapped out on me and pushed out 18 volts which in turn killed the ecu and burned out all the exterior lights.
As for AWD, you can't really go wrong with the EVO or Sti. The Evo has nice features such as Active Yaw Control and Active Center Differential.

I understand where your coming from(Im a current Fbody owner). You have to ask yourself what you are going to to do with the car...drag car, auto x, daily driver. The best advice like people above have said is to test drive what you might be interested in. I first test drove a Evo 8 2 years ago and fell in love with it, then after basically a background check, criminal record check, and credit report I got to test drive a 06 STI and liked the power but IMO it lacked some handling compared to the Evolution IX I drove later that day. I chose a Evolution after extensive reviews and reading threads from both Evolution and WRX as well as my personal review when I test drove both. I found that the Evolution is more of a car that would fit my needs.
This is just an example of what I did to find what car was right for me, hopefully some of these examples will help you out on finding the AWD car you are looking for.
