well it's been pouring down all day and I finally got a chance to try out the AWD. I tried a couple very fast take-offs and (especially to someone whos driven mostly rwd) it's quite amazing getting no wheel spin at all or anything. I like it much.

Did you go out in the rain or did you wait until it was done?

yeah its a blast...just remember dropping the clutch is generally a bad thing for subies and AWD cars. because all the stress is transfered in the drivetrain.

for example: in a RWD or FWD car you rev up to 6k and drop the clutch the power is transfered through the drivetrain and wheel spin will occur (power overcomes grip). in a AWD car the system is supposed to prevent wheelspin (loss of traction) so the energy of the 6k clutch drop doesnt disappear it transfers back through the drivetrain and can damage you tranny and diffs etc.... so just keep that in mind.

and donuts on a AWD car is usually a bad thing too unless its an open type center diff. (STi DCCD) if its a fixed diff (60r/40f split) when your doing a donut your going to be fighting the diff and it wont be happy.

anyways...if you already know this info sorry to repeat it but its good to know.

Yes, I know that hard launches are not good on the drivetrain and I wasn't doing them. What I meant when I said quick starts is more of a "get off the clutch as fast as I can, then give it the beans". I was never a big believer in huge rpm launches, donuts and abuse. :)

I drive a impreza wagon
