I'm am SOOOO lucky that didn't break while I was going 70 on the highway. Broke just as I got off and was [trying] to pull into Taco Hell. Suddenly hearing a loud pop and having absolutly NO steering is pretty hairy at 45MPH, I don't every want to know what it's like any faster.

Just fatigue like 91stt said. Long term failure from a flaw from the analysis of the parts.

you can see the shiny "fresh break" is alot smaller than the actual diameter of the part. It was cracked (and rusted) for a LONG time. Time top replace them all, but thats gonna be expensive.
