As some of you may have been aware I have been trying to sort quite a few issues with my car.

Today after yet another trip to my mechanics we came to the hope that the ECU is causing my troubles.

So tonight I decided to locate my ecu, pull it out and strip it down to see if there was any damage.

What I found was a discrace to say the least.

1/ ECU was held in place with foam
2/ ECU was not earthed in any way but it was held in with cable ties
3/ Got it out to find that it has been repaired before but it was even noted on to that it was never tested
4/ Stripped ecu to find that there are a couple of cap's that have been replaced in a really dodgy way and there is a sub board which is suppose to be soldered to the main board but all the connection points are buggered and corroded.

Honestly I'm not going to chance having it repaired and try to fix some other dodgy shops work.

I just put it all back together, earthed it properly. I'm off to my mechanics tomorrow to get prices on new A/M ECU setup.

Here are a couple of pics

Simply as nobody here knows these cars so they just wing it. But that work is just unprofessional!

I am going to talk with my EFI and Mechanic guys today to get some feedback from them. If they say fix what i got first then worry about the management side when I get into doing the engine work then that's the way I'll go.

After doing further research into how and why this happens I have found that the ECS (electronic controlled suspension) ecu is the cause. What the problem is that happens is the ECS ECU sends a junk signal through to the TPS which in turn sends that same junk signal to the engine ECU. As I don't have the ECS anymore in my car I'm going to look at removing the ECS ECU. This same issue and rectification has been performed on lots of cars in the US and here in AUS.

One step at a time, it's just getting really frustrating to fix one issue to keep find another one but I'm convident that I can get this sorted.

I'll keep you all posted.

After closer inspection of the ECU today with my EFI guy yes there has been some work done to the ECU, yes it is a really ordinary job of it but the work done has no really issues.

He agreed that the workmanship of the install was complete crap but what i had done to rectify this was all good.

Now with the ECU not the problem I'm going to look for this ECS ECU in the back and remove it.

Hopefully that will sort out this issue.

PS- just to make matters worse when I left work to go see them I found a patch of oil under the rear of my car :? Now that is another issue which I now have to find and fix.

Tonight I stripped the plastics out to locate the ECS ECU to have a look and remove it.

I found it in the back drivers corner in the boot area in front of the tail light. I remove the ECU and tidied up the wiring.

Once it was out I decided to crack it open......

I found 3 burn marks on the main board from leaking Cap's. The where all about the size of a 5 cent piece. :? You will also see a pic below of the underside of the lid which has a burn mark on it :?

After that I throw the whole car back together and replaced about 10 screws which where actually missing.

Below are some pics of the progress tonight and I thought I'd throw a couple of interior pics up as well.

I think that a few of you won't like these

I found last week during some heavy rain + heavy throttle pulling into traffic = sitting on the limiter in 1st gear going now where :(

I took a look at the tyres on my ride to find that 3 of them where absolutely buggered. One of them was that bad there was steel belt starting to come through.

After doing some chasing around for tyres I decided on the following....

20" Alloys, they are shadow chrome/silver spokes with a full polished lip. The car is also has a set of Tein Coilovers in it.

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b294/dvscoupe/GTO/100_3286.jpg

Next is to get some adjustable rear swing arms to pull some of the monster camber out of the back.

I spy a FMIC on the car, but it says a FMIC is under future mods. I think there is more done to the car than you think. Post a underhood shot and we'll take a peek.

BTW, those wheels don't actually look that bad, compared to the crap you see on cars here in the states...

haha yeah the front mount, not yet plumbed up just waiting to get the piping all sorted. I had a deal all sorted to get it done through a workshop here in Aus but the price basically doubled so I have since organised something else. Not to long now till it's plumbed up.

LOL, I understand now. You can make the hot side piping from stock parts, so all you have to do is make the 3 inch cold side and like 2 parts for the hot side (or use an ebay y-pipe) which is pretty easy.

In the states we call that an Interfooler. You see things like that on Honda's to make people think they are fast...

it's been a while since I have made any changes to the car.

Basically all i have done in since the wheels went on is rebuilt the 2 centre bearings in the tail shaft, installed a boost gauge and GFB boost controller.

The car has been running very well since finally sorting out the whole ECU issues.

I installed the boost guage and found I was running massive amounts of boost, I found that it was running a grand total of 5psi and it was a cool night when I put it on.

I then installed the BFG boost bleed and wound it up to 13psi. Oh yeah baby it gets along very nicely now.

In my quest for more HP I hope to get a new exhaust in the coming months which will be a twin 2.5 inch mandrel with high flow cats to twin cannons on the rear out one side. I see this will make a huge difference as the front pipe standard is all of about an 38mm diameter which both turbo's are trying to push through.

It's so fkn hard to build a car and pay for a damn house :( :(

Here is a current photo that someone got on a cruise i did a while ago

Hit something or is that what it does when you lower a 3000GT that much?

The stock adjustments won't compensate for that much lowering. Same thing happens to any car thats lowered with independant suspension. All thats required to fix is adjustable rear control arms.

auditech79
10-13-2007, 11:57 AM
Yeah, try that on an audi, once you lower a four link suspension like that there isn't s*** you an do to increase the camber, at least for the front anyway. Our cars have a cam bolt that can compensate for at least 2 degrees negative camber, thats why i asked.
