Act 2
Chapter 2
Voyage
It's a cold night and the two are shivering. They've been on the run for the last three days and what little money Philip had left, he spent on food. He didn't bother to stop and ask for help because as far as he knew, everyone on the bus died and if he were to escape, this would be his best chance. He looks down at the boy who's walking with his eyes closed.
Khan
Listen, I'm sorry about your father. I didn't want this to happen. I promised him, that I would take care of you and I will do that. You have my word.
The boy just keeps walking as if he didn't hear anything. Finally they come across a shipping yard. Philip tells the boy to get down while he checks it out. He walks into the yard and quickly notices that this was the shipping yard him and the rest of the group were to meet at. After talking to the foreman, he goes to get Greg.
Worker
Hey, you said it was just you. Who the hell is this?
The boy looks up at the man and Philip looks down at Greg.
Khan
This is my son..
Present Day
Two figures burst around the corner of an old warehouse at a quick pace. We see that one of the characters is Greg, now 28 years old and an Asian Taskforce Agent. He has an Asian man with him. Douglas Dao, a small time number's runner who was an informant. Now both of their covers have been blown and they are running for their lives.
Greg
Stick close to me, you're no good to me dead!
Dao
Why are they shooting at me?!? I don't know anything!
Greg
They found out you talked to an cop, that's enough o get you killed.
A hail of gun fire rips from behind them and both men duck into a small room. Greg throws Dao against the wall with so much force that the wall behind Dao crumbles a bit. Greg returns fire and hits one of the pursuers. More gun fire return towards him and in a panic Dao tries to run out of the room but Greg grabs him and throws him back down on the ground. Dao begins to cry hysterically. The gun fight continues for a few more moments. Suddenly Greg find that his gun is empty and his attackers now come out from behind cover.
Greg
Why couldn't I have unlimited bullets like in the movies??
More gun fire rips through the door and Greg ducks for cover. As he hits the floor pieces of the wall he threw Dao into earlier begins crumbling on top of him. He looks up and sees his chance. He grabs the shotgun slung over his shoulder and blasts a hole through the wall. After some dust and debris clear there is a huge hole in the drywall.
Greg
Go!
They make a break for it as the attackers break into the room. Another, another shotgun blasts and another hole to run through. They finally run out of rooms and the next wall is pure bricks.
Dao
What are we going to do?
Greg
Well lately, I've been the one doing the thinking. Why can't you think of something?
Dao
You're the cop! Save me!
Greg sees one of the attackers coming through and picks him off leaving just one left. Suddenly a grenade comes through the hole.
Greg
Shit!
Get grabs Dao and they both jump behind a desk as the bomb goes off sending clouds of dust and debris everywhere. Certain that the job is done, the attacker peers through the hole and sees nothing moving. He takes out his cell phone and calls someone on the other line.
Attacker
(In Chinese)They're dead. Both of them..
He then leaves. Moments later the remains of the desk gets pushed aside and both Greg and Dao managed to survive the blast.
Dao
I'm alive! You're alive!
Greg
Yes that's great. Lets go.
Dao
But..but..I thought I could..
Before he could finish his sentence, an ominous breaking sound can be heard.
Greg
What floor are we on?
Dao
I'm not sure why?
Just then, the floor gives way below them and both men plummet down to the hard floor below them.
*cough cough*
Greg
Are you alright?
Dao
Yes..I think..
A crackling sound is hear again..
Greg
Shut up and listen to me. This floor is just as bad as the last one. Spread yourself out now!
Though scared, Dao does as he's told.
Greg
You see that door over there?
Dao looks over and nods.
Greg
We are going to slide over to that door you hear me? Keep your weight spread out.
They behind to move slowly to the door as the cracking can be heard getting louder.
Greg
Almost there..
Dao looks up through the hole with an alarmed look on his face.
Dao
DESK!!!
Greg looks up just in time to see the desk they were hiding behind coming down on top of them. He gets up quickly and grabs Dao out of the way but not in time to make it through the door as both men and the desk go crashing down to the next floor. Both men exhausted from the ordeal find themselves on the basement looking up through the holes.
Dao
I think we should leave now.
Greg
I think you're right.
Just outside the warehouse, a busy street goes about it's day. No one noticed the gun shots or explosions. It's a loud street with cars and buses. Suddenly, a door of the warehouse opens up and both Greg and Dao walk out coughing and brushing themselves off.
Dao
Well, at least we made it?
He cuts his sentence short when he sees what Greg sees. The gang hasn't fully left the site yet and all of the men have their guns trained on Greg and Dao, except Brian Kirby an Irish Gun for Hire, who steps forward with a broad smile on his face.
Kirby
(In Chinese) Not quite.
Kirby motions to his men, who haul Greg and Dao from the doorway. Greg's custom pistol and shotgun are taken away, along with his badge and wallet.
Kirby
And what do we have here?
Dao
We were just?
Kirby
Shut him up!
A gang member strikes Dao in the back of the head with the butt of his pistol, dropping him to his knees.
Kirby
Well, Morrison or should I say Agent Morrison. I'm so glad to finally meet you. Do you have any idea how many times your name has come across my desk in the past years?
Greg
I can only imagine.
Kirby
You see Mr. Morrison, I'm here because my bosses dont like to get their hands dirty taking care of oustiders like yourself who just wants to fit in. I can understand why you're doing what you're doing. After all, if you haven't noticed, I'm not Chinese myself.
Greg
Really?
Kirby
We do what we can to get by Mr. Morrison. And I get by pretty nicely. So what do you know about my employer Mr. Morrison?
Greg
You think I talk that easily?
Kirby
I'm sure we can work something out.
Suddenly, both Greg and Dao have bags put over their heads and are thrown into a car as everyone drives off.
It's nighttime at the hideout. Dao languishes in a cell in the just to the opposite corer of two Chinese gang members sitting at a table, smoking and playing cards. Greg's effects, including the custom pistol, sit on a desk by the wall. From another room, we hear the grunts struggling of a man and the gang members hear it too. They look at each other and laugh because Kirby is known for his torture techniques. If you won't talk, he'll make you talk.
Over to Kirby's office. We see a foot shot of Grerg and Kirby standing toe to toe with a red hot metal rod on the floor. More grunting and screams are heard. As we move up, the grunts and screams become louder, more urgent and gutteral. Then, as we finally see the whole picture, we understand why all the comotion - Greg is choking Kirby! His hands are locked around Kirby's throat like a vice. Kirby is powerless to break the hold, his eyes bulging and face turning purple and theres a deep burn mark on his chest. Greg turns him and slams his head into the sink protruding from the wall. Kirby collapses to the floor, out cold.
Greg
Ha!
He unholsters Kirby's pistol and jams it into his belt.
Back in the other room. From out of shot, Greg lets out a blood-curdling scream! The gang members drop their cards and rush into the corridor, out of sight. We hear a short scuffle, and several punches being thrown. Moments later Greg emerges and scopes the room. Dao is delighted, if a little surprised, to see him.
Dao
Greg!
Greg
Where's my stuff?
Dao points it out. Greg over and scoops up his effects.
Dao
You have to get me out of here!
Greg
(Looking around) Where are the keys?
Dao points into the corridor Greg just came from.
Dao
One of them has it.
Greg
Hold on.
At that moment the station alarm sounds, and we hear much movement and frantic shouting from gang members around the building. Getting closer.
Greg
No time. I'm sorry.
Dao
No! Wait! You can't just?
Greg
Sorry. I'm sorry!
Greg disappears through the door just as five gang members storm into the room, guns drawn. They scope the room, then charge after him.
Greg runs down the darkened corridor, the shotgun slung over his shoulder. In the distance but getting closer, the sound of gang mambers on the move all around.
Brian Kirby stumbles into the holding room as more gang members rush past in pursuit of Greg. He holds a cold rag to the lump on his head, while trying to pull himself together. He is furious.
Kirby
(In Chinese)Get him! Go, go!
Greg comes to a halt - he can hear more men approaching from the end of the corridor ahead of him, and the voices of those behind him are growing louder as they close in. Trapped. The only other way out is a door set into the wall here. He tries the handle - locked. At that moment a group of men round the corridor behind him.
Lead Gang Member
(In Chinese) Stop right there or we'll shoot!
Greg throws himself at the door and breaks it open with his shoulder. As he disappears through the doorway the men let loose with a barrage of pistol fire - just as the second set of men appear at the opposite end of the corridor, and are instantly sent diving for cover. Some of the men instinctively return fire, sending those at the other end also diving for cover. After a few seconds of chaos, everyone realizes what is going on, and the two groups of gang members start angrily shouting at each other.
The walls of the storage room is stacked with boxes. There's no other doorway in or out. Greg looks up to see a skylight in the ceiling, then back down at the boxes ? climbable. The skylight is flung open and Greg emerges onto the tiled roof. Carefully, he makes his way toward the edge, but the tiles are loose, and as some give way he barely manages to stop himself sliding over the edge. The loose tiles fall three stories to the street and shatter - too far down to jump.
Kirby (Out of sight)
That's far enough!
Greg turns to see Kirby standing behind him. At least four more men have also followed Greb through the skylight and have their guns trained on him. Greg looks down to the ground again.
Kirby
What are you going to do, jump? Go ahead! (Laughs) My men will clean up the mess!
The sound of a vehicle approaching. Greg looks down to see a Jeep Wrangler pull up outside the warehouse - directly below him. Time seems to stop for a moment as Greg jumps? falls? and crashes through the canvas roof of the Jeep, right into the passenger seat! The driver barely has time to react before Greg lashes out with both feet, sending him flying from the Jeep and onto the dusty sidewalk. By the time he gets to his feet, the Jeep is already speeding away. The men on the roof open fire after the vehicle, but it's too late. He's gone.
Kirby walks back into the holding room past Dao's cell and pauses. He looks bewildered. Dao steps away from the bars. Kirby looks at Dao then grabs the pistol from his belt and shoots Dao dead.
