5 Speed Transmission Specs.

I was looking at getting a 99 Forester for a really good price, one small problem ... the transmission sounded like someone poured gravel in it.

My questions ....

What model trans is in the car?

Are these things easily rebuiled or is it a pain?

I've never had a 5 spd subie trans apart, but from the looks of things, i take it everthing has to come out the front or back ... right?

if it sounds bad. someone may have mistreated it.. if you want to take a risk.

have it taken apart and check out the gears and syncros, and check all the diffs.

subaru trannys in the imprezas arent known for being bulletproof. some people like to rebuild them with stronger gears (PPG, RA) or do the STi 6 speed swap.

however im not sure about the trannys in the legacy. can someone chime in?
